Fast Food Options in Sacramento, CA

Published: February 27, 2014

Sacramento is the capital city of California. A state well known for its cuisine offerings, people have talked about unique hole-in-the-wall restaurants and enchanting haunts of Sacramento before. What I'm here to tell you about is the great offerings of fast food stops that you might run into along your travels in the area, and which ones are worth their prices.

  1. Jimboy's Tacos

Let's get real, here. Anyone who lives in the area will tell you, Jimboy's Tacos is the best around if you want greasy, good Mexican food. It's not high and fancy, but it's delicious, flavorful, and inexpensive. Their menu boasts items such as combination plates (whose prices haven't changed in far too long), enchiladas, and of course, the famous tacos. Stop in at any location for a real treat.

  2. Boston Market

A national chain, but still somewhat unknown in some parts, Boston Market offers chicken dinners, fantastic sides, out-of-this-world cornbread cakes, and some of the best dessert pies you will ever find. If you're looking for a large spread for a family meal, they offer that, too! Their website lists locations and menu items, as well as prices if you select a local diner.

Their prices are reasonable. Not fantastically cheap, but still fast-food prices. If you're looking for a homestyle meal without needing to be home, Boston Market is a great choice.

  3. Sonic Drive-In

Another national chain that doesn't have nearly enough locations, Sonic Drive-In restaurants can be found closest to Sacramento in Roseville and Woodland (each only about 10-15 miles from city center Sacramento). I would personally recommend the Roseville location, as it is closer to Sac Town, and also has better customer service.

The absolute best thing about Sonic, though, isn't their fantastic sandwiches or amazing mozzarella sticks (though they ARE amazing). The best thing is their "Ultimate Drink Stop", in which you can combine just about any number of their drink offerings, from soda to limeade to juice to tea, to make your own perfect drink! (Some locations also offer "Happy Hour", where all drinks and slushes are 1/2 price from 2-4 PM!)

  4. Jack In The Box

I didn't know until I moved away from Sacramento that Jack In The Box wasn't everywhere. Growing up, it was a standard right along with the major brands, like McD's and BK. If you're in the area and you haven't tried their menu, do so. It may seem like standard fast food menu, but there's a lot more there.

Try a chicken teriyaki bowl with an eggroll, or a sourdough Jack (one of their signature sandwiches, with toasted sourdough, bacon, a burger patty, and a tomato slice), or even just a real ice cream oreo cookie milk shake. Their menu is diverse, and cheap. You don't get that too often!

  5. In-N-Out Burger

How can one do a fast food in California list and not include In-N-Out? Their burgers are amazing, their ingredients are fresh, their fries are made right there in front of you (from start to finish), and you can even watch your burger being assembled through the windows from the drive-thru! In-N-Out Burger is a west coast icon, and for good reason. Just look for those crossed palm trees out front, and you can't go wrong!

There are plenty of main fast food chains in Sacramento. McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, Wendy's... they're everywhere. But if you're looking for something a little different that's still well within that fast food budget, these are a few offerings that might just help you out. Sacramento, like most of California, offers a huge range of options for eating, and these are some of my own favorites.
