Best Dog Friendly Areas in the Georgetown Area

Published: February 24, 2014

This is an overview of the best places to go in Georgetown, Texas with your dog.  I truly enjoy being able to take my dog with me to enjoy my neighborhood in the Georgetown area and generated a list of my favorite spots.  These include parks, trails, and swimming holes where four-legged friends are always welcome.  I have ranked these based on popularity as well as the ability to bring your dog with you.

  1. Georgetown Bark Park

This designated off-leash enclosed dog park is a favorite among dog-owning Georgetown residents.  This park features two separate enclosed areas where dogs can run and play with their owners.  One area is reserved for small dogs and their owners.  This is important for those who fear to take their small dog around larger breeds.  Both enclosures sport water areas with hoses and plenty of tubs, bowls, and pools.  Pups can splash and play and get a drink of water.  This park also has a fully furnished agility course for owners who wish to train their dogs.  The big shady pecan trees and green grass set this park above other Texas area dog parks.

  2. Blue Hole

This swimming hole is a summer favorite and is great for those who have water-loving pups.  Dogs are welcome to come and splash around in the river and natural swimming pool but must remain on leash.  The park also has many picnic tables and outdoor grilling areas, making a summertime picnic an ideal activity to do with your dog.

  3. Lake Georgetown

Texans love their summertime swimming spots in order to beat the searing Texas heat, and this is another spot that deserves mention.  This large lake has several pavilions, sunbathing areas, picnic tables, and beaches.  Again, your dog must be on a leash while enjoying the lake.  Floating on a tube while sipping a cold drink with your dog on your lap may become your new favorite summer activity.

  4. San Gabriel Park

This park is a benchmark of the Georgetown community and has a hike and bike trail, playgrounds, exercise areas, access to the San Gabriel river and several sports areas.  It is pup friendly, as well, but Fido must stay on a leash at all times.  This is a wonderful spot to enjoy with the whole family.

  5. Hike and Bike Trail

The hike and bike trail connecting San Gabriel Park and Lake Georgetown boasts over 9 miles of paved and dirt paths.  This is a wonderful area to get some exercise with your dog and do some exploring of nature.  Dogs mus remain on leash in this area at all times, as well.

The Bark Park surpasses many other Texas area dog parks due to its spacious enclosures, water stations, and agility course.  It is a wonderful area to let your dog run and play off leash and make friends in the community, both animal and human.  For these reasons, it wins as the best dog friendly area in Georgetown.
