The Top 3 Open World Games on Steam

Published: November 21, 2013

Steam is a very popular gaming platform and marketplace that offers a lot of really great deals on games for your computer. The games on these list are considered to be open world, meaning that the player has freedom to choose where they want to go and the missions they want to complete.

  1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim starts off with a roar and the action never stops. The game is especially beautiful on a PC with a decent video card. The Steam version allows for modifications that can be added on to enhance your experience. There are many texture and graphics modifications available that really bring out the beauty and artwork of the game. The gameplay is fantastic, although some mechanics are a little choppy. Overall, I definitely recommend this game to anyone with Steam.

  2. Saint's Row: The Third

Yes, I am aware the Saint's Row 4 is available on Steam. However, I believe that it is Saint's Row: The Third that really brings out the best and the most ridiculous in the franchise. From crashing a rival gang's party with Kanye West playing in the background to wielding all sorts of unmentionable objects as blunt weapons, Saint's Row: The Third is my favorite in the franchise. As far as gameplay is concerned, you can choose to complete sidequests and missions at your own pace. Some missions can be difficult to complete, and others can be downright annoying. Overall, however, I enjoy the game a lot and still play it to this day.

  3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex: Human Revolution signals the revival of a franchise that was absolutely buried by its predecessor. After releasing an acclaimed hit with the first Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Invisible War largely disappointed. However, Human Revolution brought back some incredible artwork, a great storyline, and a fun, open world environment to explore.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is probably the least open-world game on this list, but it still gives the player a lot of different ways to complete missions and to enjoy the gameplay. I highly recommend purchasing the Director's Cut version available on Steam because it comes with all of the expansions and downloadable content that bring the whole twisted storyline together.

I highly enjoyed each of the games available on this list. I especially enjoyed Deus Ex: Human Revolution. With an incredible environment, a unique soundtrack, and an engaging storyline, Deus Ex: Human Revolution struck all of the right chords for me.
