Creating beautiful flawless skin with the correct ingredients in products
Almost everyone has something they hate about their skin. Before I started working with a master esthetician I pretty much hated everything about my skin. Fine lines, wrinkles, acne, tumor sized acne, blackheads, oily spots and dry flakey patches. I was a mess. I will review some of my favorite products (not by brand but by ingredients. Skin care is never a one size fits all. It is an art.
Enzymes: examples are rice enzymes, bromelain and papain from pineapple and papaya
These are powerful chemicals that are probably my favorite. They act like little pac mans they eat up all the dead skin cells. This is great for blackheads, dull tired looking skin. It is also great for the antiaging benefits. Think about a fence that has been freshly sanded. The dry dead wood has been removed and that is kind of how the enzymes work.
This is the most important product of all. But it is important to choose a good product. The best are the full spectrum or broad spectrum products. These have both a physical suncreen like zinc and a chemical suncreen like oxybenzone. The reason for wanting both types is they protect against the UVA and UVB rays. I like to think of the UVA as the aging rays and UVB as burning rays.
I used to believe that soap and water was fine. But after learning why a good cleanser does more than just remove the impurites from my skin I could never go back to washing my face with a bar of soap. Cleansers come with a wide variety of ingredients. There should not be a one size fits all cleanser since we are all dealing with different skin types.
The most popular ingredients in acne cleansers are salacylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Some contain very high percentages. I used to think that the higher the percentage the better the product. Little did I know that was sometimes making my skin worse because it was too strong. Start low and increase. Also try single ingredient products first because if you are having a reaction to an ingredient it is easier to identify.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids aka AHA
This powerful ingredient is amazing for dry, oily and damaged skin. It penetrates deep and it also hydrates, exfoliates, increases cell turn over, and helps with hyperpigmentation (brown spots) This product ingredient can be found in cleansers, serums and moisturizers and night creams. And like all things its best used in moderation. It increases sun sensitivity so it is even more important to use sunblock with this product. Over time your skin begins to tolerate it so if skin is sensitive after using decrease the frequency of it and increase usage slowly.
Oily skin still needs moisturizer
If you have combo or oily skin you still need moisturizer. The types of moisturizer must be oil free or you will find your face even greasier than before. Usually moisturizer for oily skin are called hydrating gels. They have hylauronic acid. This amazing ingredient holds 1000 times its weight in water. It is important to keep our face hydrated but not oily.
These are the most simple product suggestions to help improve any skin type. If you are not happy with something happening with your skin then maybe it is time to try something new. I have a very basic knowledge about these products but can tell you that if you use the right products for your skin care needs you too can have great skin. Of course diet and lifestyle can play a role in healthy or unhealthy skin but the products you use can also make a difference
