The Best Bars in the Valley

Published: November 11, 2014

The San Fernando Valley has often gotten a bad rap over the years, but lately some of the bars on the "other side" of the hill have been getting some well deserved attention. Here are some of the best:

  1. Tunnel Bar

Head down the alley and up the stairs toward the light in the back of Tipple & Brine in Sherman Oaks to the new speak easy Tunnel Bar. It's an intimate room with large black and white rock posters for decor. Great cocktails and a wonderful place to share drinks with someone special.

  2. Foxfire Room

If you like diver bars than the Foxfire Room is for you! You will definitely find locals hanging out in the afternoon and liquored up by evening. Drinks are strong and lights are dim. A great place for darts or just chilling out.

  3. No Bar

Another great divey lounge just outside of the NoHo Arts District. There is a pool table and several dark corners to cozy up in. Plus they feature a 2 for 1 Happy Hour until 10pm.

  4. Tonga Hut

This is the oldest tiki bar in the Valley--making fruity drinks since the late 1950s. Great bartenders pour traditional tiki drinks for locals and the hipsters just discovering the place. Enjoy a fun atmosphere and tiki decor as you choose from a large list of cocktails.

  5. Sardo's

You might not think it's cool to get your drink on in Burbank, especially since this bar shares a parking lot with a grocery store, but if you love karaoke, this is the place to go. From studio execs to porn stars, you'll find all types here singing every genre of music. You'll be dancing before you know it!

  6. Firefly

This Studio City restaurant has a great bar lounge area where the bartenders are friendly and the cocktails are tasty. Good atmosphere in a place that feels a bit like a NY bar.

  7. The Fox and Hounds

This pub is a great neighborhood bar. They have plenty of beers and ciders. Live bands and game nights are popular nights so expect crowds. It's a comfy place to drink and eat with friends.

  8. Residuals Tavern

This Tavern has operated under several names over the years, but it seems to have hit its' stride again as a great neighborhood bar after new management stepped in. Drinks are cheap and Happy Hour happens nightly!

  9. Local Peasant

This popular Sherman Oaks gastropub entered the scene years before most of the gastropubs in the area. Great crowd and cocktails. If you love a great brunch, plan on visiting on the weekend to have your Old Fashioned with breakfast.

  10. Chimneysweep Lounge

Often referred to as the Sweep by locals, this dive bar will always be one of the best places to get your drink on in the Valley. Strong drinks, a great jukebox and a pool table keep the good times going. And once you start eating the free popcorn, you might become addicted.

From dive bars, to gastropubs, the Valley really can be a fun place to drink. Cheers!
