My Ten Best Pinterst Fails and Wins (edited)

Published: October 9, 2014

Pinterest is a site that allows you to pin or collect links to information or pictures. I use Pinterest to keep track of recipes I want to try or crafts I want to do. This list contains the ten best Pinterest pins I have. Each pin is the best because it is either an epic win or an epic fail.

  1. One-Pot Cheeseburger Casserole

This pin was an epic fail for me. I followed the instructions and not a single member of my family would eat the dish. It took ten minutes to convince my then four year old to try the dish. It was immediately spit out and a request for pizza was made. I found myself thinking this could not be that bad. I tried it and ordered pizza.

  2. Wire Heart Bracelet

  3. Caramel Apple Bites

This was most definitely and epic fail for me. No matter what I tried I could not get the caramel to stay on the apple bites. There is nothing more gross looking than caramel falling off of apples. I tried making these twice, even letting the caramel cool a bit before dipping. Both times the caramel fell off.  Maybe, I should try one more time...third times the charm, we'll see.

  4. Cleaning Stove Vents

    (Photo from http://theeverydaycinderella.blogspot.com/2013/02/clean-your-stove-vents.html)

After reading the tutorial, I thought, hey, an easy way to clean that nasty vent. So, I immediately went to my kitchen took down the vent and began to boil water. Once the water was boiling I added the baking soda until it foamed. Then i sank my vent into the pot. I left the vent in the water about a minute, just like the tutorial. NOTHING, still ugly and nasty. So, I thought, maybe it needs to steep. I bring out my biggest pan, pour the contents of the pot into the pan and totally submerge my vent. I left it for five minutes. A little bit of junk came off, but nowhere near the results that the original poster got. Sadness. Pinterest fail.

  5. Cinnamon Roll Pie Crust

    (Picture from http://www.tablespoon.com/recipes/sweet-potato-pie-with-a-cinnamon-roll-crust/a0781ce0-7603-44eb-98d1-2580edeccb1c)

This was a Pinterest fail and win at the same time. I made my pie crust and followed along with the tutorial. The only problem was that I could not cut the dough as thinly as directed. I did a fair amount of smashing my dough into the pan but I ended up with an incredibly thick pie crust. Luckily, what I thought was going to be a huge fail, turned out not too bad. My family loved the pie crust. I think next time I will chill the dough more before cutting.

  6. Glass Tile Pendant

    (Picture from http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2010/04/glass-tile-pendants.html)

This was the first project I tried from Pinterest. My first Pinterest project = Pinterest Win. I used this tutorial to make customized tile pendants for 10 of my family and friends. The tutorial was easy to follow and the pendants were easy to make. A huge plus was that they all loved their gifts. This was definitely a Pinterest win.

  7. Scripture Case from a pair of Jeans

    (Photo from http://www.polkadotchair.com/2010/03/tuesday-tutorial-scripture-case-from-a-pair-of-jeans.html/)

I know that the tutorial states that it is for a scripture case, however, if you make the handle longer it can be a small tote. This was definitely a Pinterest win. I made a bag using this tutorial and my niece decided it was hers. She like the bag so much she took it over! That's definitely a Pinterest win.

  8. Cucumber Salsa

    (Photo from http://myfridgefood.com/recipes/dips-and-sauces/cucumber-salsa/)

This was a Pinterest win. I pinned this recipe when I was looking for things to make on Labor Day. This is a refreshing take on salsa with my favorite summer vegetable. The only downside is that this recipe makes a ton of the stuff. I ended up giving most of it to my sister. She said that it was good in salads as well. I will have to try that.

  9. Oreo Turkeys

    (Photo from http://www.ourbestbites.com/2010/11/oreo-turkeys-and-cookie-pilgrim-hats/)

Thanksgiving Pinterest win! This easy to follow tutorial, shows you how to make these cute Oreo turkeys. Getting the eyes and noses on can be a bit frustrating but well worth the work. The Oreos did get a bit soggy when they stayed in the container over night, but no one seemed to care about that. I took about thirty of them and they were all gone before I left, and I got a bunch of compliments on them. Definitely a Pinterest win.

  10. Mountain Dew Cupcakes

    (Photo from http://www.allthingscupcake.com/2007/12/05/mountain-dew-cupcakes/)

I was very skeptical about these cupcakes. I used to think Mountain Dew ran through my veins because I drank so much of it. So I had to try this recipe. Even with my skepticism this recipe was a definite Pinterest win. I made the cupcakes for the first time to give to my students. I gave them each a cupcake as they left class, the next day I was asked what they had to do in order for me to make them more cupcakes. I made these for my children not long after that and everyone that came by wanted one of the cupcakes. It seems our friends were telling each other about them. This was an epic win!

The biggest fail had to be the one-pot cheeseburger casserole. It got the worst reaction from my family and I ended up wasting time and money. The best win was definitely the Mountain Dew cupcakes. I am constantly being asked to make them for people and they offer to pay me. Even though I had wins and fails, I still love Pinterest.
