10 Best places to eat in the Scranton area.

Published: September 10, 2014

I know that when I go out to eat looking for the best food is always a goal in mind. With so many choices its hard to make a decision on where to go or what to eat. Some restaurants are carbon copies of each other, and who wants to go to a chain when there are much better local choices to choose from.  The list I have compiled here is from "hard" work and dedication to eating and finding that perfect bite.

  1. Thai Rak Thai

When I go down to the city of Scranton for a good bite to eat few people ever mention the gem that is Thai Rak Thai. Unique restaurant for the Scranton that focuses on Thai food the first time I went in there I immediately fell in love. The building may be small, but the atmosphere and serve is exploding. If you tell them it’s you birthday the wait still brings out the disco ball, music, and a gong to celebrate the most joyous occasion.

  2. Amber

Amber is the name of a wonderful Indian Restaurant tucked away in Moosic Pennsylvania. A brown building that is easy to drive by, but holds some amazing foods. Established back in 1997 Amber has been serving authentic Indian food for over 10 years. The restaurant has a buffet each day for lunch for $9.99 and allows their customers to grab a to go box and fill up. Where Amber shines is dinner. The dining area has a relaxing setting that makes you feel at home. From the food to drinks everything is authentic Indian. Ambers has the delicious Sweet lassie that is a yogurt drink that helps cool you down after a spicy meal. The menu boasts a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. If you want something different Amber has goat. When I saw Goat Curry on the menu I knew what I needed to get. The dish came in a beautiful bowl with fresh cooked goat in a medium onion sauce & spices. The food was too hot, but rather a perfect mix of spices. The meat was out of this world falling of the bone each time I took a bite. Items are in the $15 area so expect to spend a bit for a couple, but will worth each bite. I can’t wait to go back!

  3. Sushi and Thai

My brother introduced me to Sushi Thai, and how he found it was funny. My brother was going to get Chinese food from a favorite spot but walked into the wrong door. That door happened to be Sushi Thai. He never regretted and found his new favorite spot. I have to agree with him, because I haven’t found a better sushi place yet. Sushi Thai located in Dunmore is in a tiny plaza by a greenhouse off the O’Neil highway. Sushi Thai even expanded a bit and added a hibachi area. Hibachi is when the chef cooks in front of you, and puts on an awesome show. I used to not like sushi. I was one of those people who couldn’t stand the idea of eating raw fish, but after one bite I fell in love. For sushi lovers in love they can share a literal boat of Sushi. Sushi Thai fills up a model boat with all over there in house made sushi so the happy couple can enjoy. If you want to enjoy alone grab a Dragon roll with Thai curry soup or even Pad Thai. Each item is amazing on its own but together is heavenly. If you are looking for a blast of flavor with each bite head over to Sushi and Thai you won’t regret it.

  4. The Loading Dock

The loading Dock is a neighbor to Sushi and Thai but the two couldn’t be anymore more different. No matter whom you ask about the loading dock everyone says the same two things. The food is amazing, and its the cleanest place you will ever eat. The menu is an American classic with burghers, hoagies, steaks, salads, and seafood. Seafood is where The loading dock shines. Each on item on their menu is handled with care and will make you feel good on each bite. The service is amazing and the prices are just right. I would suggest everyone port at this dock at least once.

  5. Posh

Posh is dining at its finest for Scranton. A high end restaurant for the area it also hosts the Oak bar & Lounge and a cigar club. The food is superb and some of the best in the area. If you are looking for something different try a starter plate of Lobster Mac & cheese. A combo of lobster morsels in a smoked Gouda cream sauce topped with a herbed-panko crust can make your mouth start to water just thinking about it. Savor each bite because when it’s gone you will wish you had more. For a main dish try the Seared Duck breast. A pan roasted with crispy skin, roasted tomato-corn risotto, and a herbed pesto. True delights that will make anyone feel good after eating. Posh is suit and tie kind of place and very pricey, but is still a joy to eat at on those special occasions.

  6. State street Grill

State Street Grill is located on the main street of Clarks summit. you want to make sure you have reservations since its always packed. In the summer the State Street Grill boasts a patio that offers a lush environment and scenic view. The Grill offers a large verities of drinks at their bar with a variety of cocktails and on tap spirits. Main Street Grill has a wide variety of items to choose from, but what makes it unique is its from the range selection. From the range offers free-range, milk fed or grass fed beef, game, poultry, or veal. Each item cooked to perfection whether it be for a bacon wrapped meatloaf or a filet mignon each bite is as good as the last.

  7. Osaku Traditional Japanese

As the name suggests Osaka is a Traditional Japanese restaurant. Osaka offers some of the best sushi around in Scranton and a hibachi at each table. You can go there for a steak or a salmon but that isn’t what makes you want to stay is the maki rolls, Osaka special rolls, and the a la cart sushi or sashimi. Offering unique treats like baby octopus, eel, flying fish ore, or sea-urchin each items gets better as you go down the list. If you can’t stay for a spell order in advance and have take out sushi for lunch. It’s a great place and a cheerful environment with constant laughter and chatter.

  8. Kabuki Japanese steak

Another great Japanese steak house located in a hole of a wall.  I was told from people who lived in Japan the is place to go for home cooking. It offers some of the best sushi and hibachi around at a good price. The seating is limited and feels a little crammed together, but worth the wait.  Kabuki offers a large bar selection with a special fruit bunch bowl of adults favorite drinks.  The atmosphere is great and hibachi chefs now how to have a good time while putting on a good show. The food is amazing as well. The food has converted many of my friends to the sushi and Japanese way of eating. I highly suggest if you are in the area to stop by for some great food.

  9. Rossi Ristorante

A family owned and operated Italian staple in the heart of Archbald. Rossi’s has offered fine Italian dining for years with homemade sauces and pizza. The house special, Penne’ Ala Vodka made with a marinara cream, Romano cheese, and the right amount of vodka can turn any person into an pasta loving Italian. The restaurant has a beautiful interior with new tables, chairs , and rugs. With a second floor customers can have a private dining experience upstairs to really enjoy that special meal.

  10. Colarussos Coal Fired Pizza

Colarussos offers my favorite kind of pizza. A brick oven made pie with a thin crust. The pizza’s made here are met to be enjoyed with a small group while sitting at their awesome bar watching a the game. Located in a strip mall it’s a great place to sit down for a drink and some pizza when trying to unwind from that long day of work. If you want to get out of there just order it to go and enjoy a Margareta pizza at home or a 3 cheese pizza.

All in all i feel that each type of food as its own place and that Thai Rack thai is one of the best. Give each one a shot and I hoped this helped any confused foodies on where to eat next.
