The Best Happy Hours in Greater Hartford

Published: July 8, 2014

When a hard day's work can only be made better by a hard beverage, use this handy list to get to a Hartford area watering hole sometime between the happiest of hours, 4-7pm, M-F. Here's some of my favorites, in no particular order!

  1. Wood-N-Tap, various locations: Hartford, Rocky Hill, Vernon, Farmington, Wallingford and more!

This popular local chain has an awesome "Tappy Hour," M-F from 4-7pm and from 10 pm to close, 7 days a week. With $4 cocktails, $4.50 microwbrews, $5 martinis/wines, and $6 selection of appetizers, you can have a bite and a brew with out breaking the bank. I recommend splitting the 1/2 chicken nachos with a friend and grabbing an IPA. Great menu and beer selection! See for location details.

  2. Max Fish, 110 Glastonbury Blvd, Glastonbury, CT

Fresh fish, top notch cocktails, a beer brewed just for them (Brewtus Maximus), a raw bar with experienced staff to make thoughtful suggestions based on your pallete, and tapas ranging in price from $2 to $8.... sign me up! A shorter window of wonderful, perhaps because it makes us TOO HAPPY, Happy Hour here is only between 4 and 6 pm, but this one is a must on the list if you love seafood and libations. Their glorious Happy Hour menu is available for your viewing pleasure here:

I recommend the Dirty Loco cocktail with a few $1 Oysters of the Day.

This Happy Hour is by far my local favorite!

  3. Feng Asian Bistro, 93 Asylum St. Hartford, CT

With a fun list of Asian tapas and appetizers at affordable prices, and great $6 martini list, Feng Asian Bistro is a downtown Hartford must for the Happy Hour enthusiast in the mood for sake and sushi rolls. While you wait for traffic from the mass exodus of suburbia-bound colleagues to subside between 4-6pm, enjoy a duck spring roll and Sapporo.

  4. The Half Door, 270 Sisson Ave, Hartford, CT

Pop into this Irish Pub between 5-7pm, M-F for a pint of Guinness or Smithwicks and some gastro-pub delights like the beer-battered broccoli. On-street parking is tight, but this is a great place and worth the walk for the West-Enders on a warm summer night.

  5. The Russian Lady, 191 Ann Uccello St, Hartford, CT

$3 domestic pints and well drinks and $5 appetizers makes this a no-brainer Happy Hour in downtown Hartford, M-F between 4-7pm. What's even better is when you are planning a get-together, you can create your own "TEA TIME" which includes $2 Domestic Drafts, $3 Mixed Drinks & $4 Infamous Iced Teas for an hour for your entire group! FREE to book! Check them out here:

  6. City Steam Brewery, Hartford, CT

M-F from 4-7pm, this local brewery offers $2 off their microbrew pints, $4 house wine, and a number of other drink specials. Pair this with $3 Bar Bites, and you've got a quick walk from a downtown office to Happy Hour bliss. Not on the Happy Hour menu, but a fave of mine is the Sweet Potato tots!

  7. Plan B Burger Bar, locations in W. Hartford, Glastonbury and more

Happy Hour, Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm features some awesome $3 special from a Bourbon of the week nip, draft and house wines, as well as their delish mini burgers, this is a fun, trendy local chain to check out when you can no longer stand your boss and bourbon, brews and beef are your only salvation.

  8. TGIFriday's 209 Hale Rd Manchester, CT

Yeah, it's a chain, but it's a chain that has made itself the go-to place for Happy Hour. This location has some of the sincerest and fun bartenders in greater Hartford, who after a while treat you like you're Norm because they know your name, your drink and your favorite apps. Check out Thirsty Thursdays for extra specials to their already extensive Happy Hour specials, that are M-F 4-7 and ALL DAY Sunday! Good value.

  9. Trumbull Kitchen, 150 Trumbull St, Hartford, CT

Another Max Restaurant Group marvel of elegance and amazing tapas. This is a great go-to for Happy Hour with the boss or out-of-towners. Their rotational tapas menu are the perfect bites to accompany their top shelf cocktail concoctions. You may spend a lot, but your taste buds will thank you even if your wallet doesn't.

  10. Damon's Tavern, Hartford, CT

A shorter Happy Hour from 4-6, they've got decent drink specials and fantastic calamari. With more TVs than you can imagine and listening boxes for the bar, you can watch your favorite sport from virtually anywhere in the lounge and hear it too!

Max Fish is my favorite Happy Hour of this list, though each is a tried and tested experience which I have enjoyed for either their awesome value, experience or both. I hope you find these suggestions useful when searching for your next afterwork cocktail!
