Top 5 best Nintendo Wii games
When it comes to video game consoles, most people think of the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Despite actually selling the most physical units out of the three, the Nintendo Wii is often overlooked by the "hardcore" gamers as irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, there are a ton of very good games on the system that appeal even to this hardcore fanbase. Here are the top five:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Smash Brothers has been one of the top Nintendo franchises for the "hardcore" gamer ever since it made its debut on the Nintendo 64 way back in 1999. Super Smash Brothers becamse so popular on the competitive scene that it was even one of the titles on the Major League Gaming Pro Circuit for awhile.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
With nearly 30 million copies sold, New Super Mario Bros. Wii ranks among the best selling Mario Brothers games ever (the original on NES sold over 40 million). That's no small accomplishment! New Super Mario Bros. Wii introduces some new gameplay features and the fact it can be played co-operatively makes it a great family game.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
This was a toss up between Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the original. Both are tied for the #1 aggregate review score on Metacritic of any Nintendo Wii game with a 97/100 score. In the end, the sequel gets the spot because let's face it, it's really hard to create a sequel to a well loved and incredibly successful video game that is equally as well loved and successful. Nintendo managed to pull that off with Super Mario Galaxy 2.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Zelda is one of the all-time classic Nintendo franchise. Although Twilight Princess scored higher and sold better, it was merely a re-release of a GameCube game. Skyward Sword is a Wii exclusive title so it is more deserving of the spot on this list. Skyward Sword won numerous Game of the Year awards when it was released so it is clearly an amazing game.
Metroid Prime Trilogy
It just wouldn't be right for this list not to include a Metroid game and Metroid Prime Trilogy is the one that stands out the most. Trilogy includes three Metroid games all wrapped into one neat little package: Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes which were originally released on GameCube as well as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption from the Wii.
Some honorable mentions to the above include other Nintendo-based franchises such as Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, and Super Paper Mario. Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and the Just Dance franchise probably also deserve mentions. The Nintendo Wii isn't all just shovelware and motion controlled gimmickry. There are many great video games on the system!
