10 DFW outdoor date activities for $30 or less

Published: April 4, 2014

Whether its a first date or fiftieth, its always a good idea to get out and explore. Take your misses (or mister) on one of these outdoor date ideas and be prepared for fun in the sun without breaking the bank. Not all activities are available year round, so be sure to check the Company's website (and the weather!) before you plan your trip.

  1. Stand Up Paddle Boarding (Downtown Fort Worth)

Stand up paddle boarding is great way to get outside and get some exercise and have some fun. It is surprisingly easily, so don't worry about not having experience. I recommend renting a board for both individuals and perhaps packing a small cooler with drinks and snacks. Though you are on the water, most people don’t fall in, but it does happen! Be prepared with appropriate clothes and sunscreen and leave your phone in the car! You can rent two boards for an hour for $30 from Aloha paddle boards. Aloha Paddle Boards

  2. Minor League Baseball - Frisco Rough Riders (Frisco)

Take her out to the ball game, take her out to crowd! Buy her some peanuts and cracker jacks, and throw in a hot dog and a few cold beers... Everybody loves baseball, and what better way to enjoy than at the ball park. Tickets for the AA Frisco Rough Riders can be had for as low as $7, and food and drinks are typically cheaper than at Rangers games.

  3. Rahr Brewery Tour (Fort Worth)

This great local brewery pumps out a number of delicious craft beers and they welcome the public to come and sample up to three pints for only $10 during their Wednesday and Saturday events. You even get a Rahr glass to take home. Though most of the brewery is in a warehouse, there is a patio outside where you can enjoy your brew and the sunshine. Bonus! Typically live music and food are also available. Rahr Brewery Website

  4. Cowtown Wake Park (Fort Worth)

Water sports typically require two things: a boat and water. Since boats are typically harder to come by than water, skip them all together and head to Cowtown Wake Park for an evening of cable wakeboarding and fun. This is sure to be a memory he/she won't soon forget. Weekday specials include a 6pm - close pass/equipment for only $22!Cowtown Wake Park

  5. Galaxy Drive-In Theatre Park & Putt (Ennis)

This unique date option combines two classic activities: mini-golf and drive in movies. Make sure to let her win. Prices start as low as $3/game and movie tickets can be had for as low as $6. Just be sure and keep it PG, this is a family location! Also, no need to bring a picnic, since they have a fully equipped snack bar. Galaxy Drive in Website

  6. Horse Racing and Concerts at Lone Star Park (Grand Prarie)

Long considered the sport of kings, horse racing can be an exciting backdrop for a date. Sit outside, wager on a few races, and enjoy reasonably priced drinks followed by concerts throughout the racing season. General admission starts as low as $5, but can be more expensive if you opt for better seats.

  7. Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge (Fort Worth)

Nothing brings out the beauty of nature, like nature (and more cowbell). This city owned green space offers nearly 20 miles of hiking trails and wildlife viewing opportunities, and tickets start at just $5. Be sure to pack all the necessities (water, bug spray, sunscreen) as not everything is available at the refuge. Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge

  8. Jazz Sundays at LightCatcher Winery (Fort Worth)

Make the trip out to this unique Winery for its Jazz Sundays (most 1st and 3rd Sundays April - November) for live music, wine tasting, food options, and a chance to tour a working winery. Cover of $5 gets you in, and drinks are reasonably priced. Check driving distance from your house and make sure you stay safe and drink responsibily.

  9. Division One Collegiate Athletics (Denton, Fort Worth, Dallas)

Whether its catching a spring baseball or tennis match up or perhaps a fall football game, many north Texas universities have dirt-cheap tickets available for quality division one athletics. Bigger games require advance planning, but for non-football sports, tickets can usually be purchased at the box office. With sports played year round, you should have no trouble finding something that works with your schedule.

  10. NRH20 Waterpark (North Richland Hills)

NRh20, with its water coasters, slides, and lazy rivers can be a great way to break the ice and have fun like a kid on a date. Regular tickets start at $25.99, but there are specials throughout the season including half price tickets after 4pm. Food and drinks are available for sale at the park.

Whether you are up for big adventure on the low seas, or just want to sit back and watch top talent play out in America's favorite pasttime, remember that North Texas offers many fun and cheap alternatives to the overused dinner and a movie. Just don't blame me if this first date leads to many more.
