10 Best straight to DVD/VHS/Streaming animated films with Super Heroes

Published: April 2, 2014

Not every movie will be released in the theater. There is a lot of competition for viewers and not every fan can make it out to the cinema. Not all material is suited for the big screen. The movie is business is all about money and makes decisions accordingly. Only now can comics truly come to life.

  1. Batman and Mr Freeze: Subzero (1998)

Batman faces off against Mr. Freeze. This story is not your typical saturday morning fare. The story is not simple it has layers and the performances are very good considering this movie never made it to theaters in the US. It is in the style of Batman The Animated series and stars Kevin Conroy as Batman/Bruce Wayne. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_%26_Mr._Freeze:_SubZero

  2. Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007)

Bender was oof the air for about 5 years. I hope the Fox executives were made in Torgo Executive Powder. Just kidding but they should be made to watch every episode that aired just to be reminded how smart and funny this show really was. This movie extends the series and leads into a new season of Comedy Central but those execs at Comedy Central have cancelled Futurama again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama:_Bender's_Big_Score

  3. Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010)

Another Batman movie. I know you are asking why there are so many. The answer is I think they are really great. There is neat action and gritty plots and characters. This particular movie has Supernaturals' Jensen Ackles as teh Red Hood. This is a serious story well as serious as a story can be based off a comic of a man who dresses like a bat and fight crime at night.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Under_the_Red_Hood

  4. Ultimate Avengers (2006)

This was probably the best movie starring the Avengers before Disney's The Avengers. It is based off the Ultimates universe of Marvel comics. It has a lot of action and one of the better onscreen Hulks since Lou Ferrigno. This is top notch production that I think comic fans will enjoy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Avengers

  5. Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996)

Ordinarily I hate all the direct to dvd animated sequels Disney made. There are a few exceptions and this is one of them. Robin Williams returns as the Genie and makes everything better. But that is only an opinion. There is a lot to enjoy here for all viewers who enjoy animation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aladdin_and_the_King_of_Thieves

  6. Kronk's New Groove (2005)

I hate most sequels to animated Disney films. This is one of the exceptions. Patrick Warburton kills this as Kronk. I also love Eartha Kitt as Yzma but Kronk is where it is at for this animation fan. It is fun my only gripe is it moves a little too fast it is short in my opinion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kronk's_New_Groove

  7. Aladdin: The Return of Jafar (1994)

I have stated before my dislike for most Disney animated sequels but this is the last exception I will make. Jafar returns for revenge against Aladdin and his pals. There is great action and the animation is very good considering this never made it to theaters. This is the first of the Disney animated sequels and one of the very best in my opinion.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_of_Jafar

  8. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - part 1

Peter Weller was an excellent choice for Batman/Bruce Wayne. There is a gravel from age and an intensity that brings the chracter to life. If you read the comics you may see a few things missing but most of it is here and it is pretty good. I know there is a part 2.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_The_Dark_Knight_Returns_(film)

  9. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - part 2

I do not think it is possible to watch part one then not watch part 2. I had to include part 2. There is a very good reason this is one of the best Batman stories in all of comics and it is displayed very well. Peter Weller as an older Bruce Wayne/Batman once again cleaning up the streets of Gotham. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_The_Dark_Knight_Returns_(film)

  10. Wonder Woman (2009)

Wonder Woman really is top notch. It is a shame she has yet to be the star of her own live action feature. She is a strong competent character that kicks a lot of butt.I have see no other Wonder Woman movies or shows other than this and the old tv show with Lynda Carter.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Woman_(2009_film)

I know my list is Batman heavy. Sorry, if it is wrong to enjoy Batman I think I will choose to be wrong. If enjoying Batman is wrong I do not want to be right. If you do not like Batman you must be a communist or French. Just kidding...or am I.
