The Best Camping Areas in Western Kentucky

Western Kentucky has had many desirable campsite resorts since the Tennessee Valley Authority set up the Kentucky Lake Dam in the 1950s. All around the water's edge you find them, and, sometimes campsites are set up near the water with open access to the water in just a short journey down a hill or short path. Some of the best are found below.

  1. Birmingham Point Campground

    Birmingham Point or Birmingham Point RV Camp's address is 5295 Barge Island Road, also referred to ad Ky. US 962. The phone number is 1-270-354-8482. This is a beautiful group of peninsulas in a broad section of the lake. There are large shade trees and electric hook-ups for up to 77 RVs or other types of camper trailers that take electircal hook-up. Campers have access to a dumping station, are allowed to bring pets or tents, plus, all sorts of lake swimming, a boat launch and showers are available. This campsite was at one time free, and, still has very affordable rates.

  2. Aurora Oaks Campground

    At Aurora Oaks you have a pool, a laundromat, camping, electricity, restrooms, shower and sewer. For one day one car full of campers and their equipment will be charged $22-$24 depending on the electrical hook-up. This one is just about two minutes from the Kenlake State Resort Park which has restaurants and boating, mooring, picnicking and more. If is found on Ky.   3. Kenlake State Resort Park

    Kenlake State ReHere you can rent fun things like jet skis, loads of fun and easy as pie to maneuver with just a little practice. For campers and fishers there is a fish cleaning station which makes it easier to clean all those fish you catch. There is a bait and tackle shop. There is fishing equipment that you can ren. You can also get firewood, ice, drinks, snacks, play volleyball or tennis and enjoy walking trails while you stay there. This State Park opens on March 31st. The price for camping here is $19 per night for eight people in one party. Campsites have picnic tables.

  4. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground

    Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground is located at 37⁰0' 45⁰N, 88⁰16'53⁰W near the junction of 62 E and 282 W at 166 Upper Village Drive, Gilbertsville, Kentucky. As far as the campsites go you have the option of choosing primitive campsites or modern ones. You must stay one night unless it is a holiday weekend in which case you must stay two nights, meaning that you have to pay the amount that is equivalent to staying this long. There is a dump station and other modern conveniences as well as volleyball, restrooms, grills, groceries and a playground.

     

  5. Big Bear Campground

    Big Bear Campground is surrounded by water on three side, which is pretty exciting and Big Bear has excited its customers for over fifty years. You can email Big Bear at stay@bigbearkentuckyylake.com for information on rates and seasonal change-overs. Their campground is open from January 1st to October 31st. For a 30 amp. powered campsite you can stay for $31.00 per day, $186.00 per week or $639.84 per month. The address is 30 Big Bear Resort Road off of the junctiof of highways 68 East and 58. For a primitive campsite you can stay for $25.00 per day, $150.00 per week or $516.00 per month. These rates include 4 adults, each extra adult is $6 per day more. An extra tent is $15 per day extra. There is a full service marina with boat slips and boat launch for boaters and fishermen plus there are ski rentals here.

The area in West Kentucky surrounding the lakes has cabins, campgrounds including many more than just those listed here, scenic roads and even farmland sprinkled throughout it. You can enjoy a vacation here from April until September, and, some campsites even allow camping in the winter months, such as, Land Between the Lakes. In just a phone call (1-270-924-2000) you may locate some others too. The most beautiful campsite for the least cost is number 1, Birmingham Point Campground, so the best. I think every one of these is the best you will find anywhere, as well.
