The Things to do in Humboldt
Humboldt County irests near the top of Northern California. It is a gorgeous area. There are towering redwood trees and beautiful coastline. The low population density means that there is plenty of space to escape from the modern hustle and bustle, but it is also possible to find good restaurants and cultural events.
The Arcata Community Forest
The Arcata Community Forest is a great place to go hiking. Trails wind through the redwoods up and down hilly terrain. If you bring your dog they can romp through the woods, or on the large grassy area. There are horse friendly trails for equestrians. Keep an eye out for newts and other native wildlife.
The Samoa Cookhouse is a part of local history. They have great food all day. They serve huge portions of delicious food. The cookhouse originally fed hungry lumberjacks when it opened in 1890. There is a small museum attached to the restaurant worth checking out, and a maritime museum that shares the parking lot.
Patricks Point is a gorgeous place to walk by the ocean. Unfortunately they do not allow dogs, but you can bring them to the nearby Stone Lagoon. Watching the fog roll in over the waves is utterly peaceful. It can get cold, so make sure to bring a pullover or windbreaker.
There are many other great things to do in Humboldt County, and it it worth exploring to find out which one is your favorite. After tromping around in the woods and having a huge meal at the cookhouse there are some great local breweries with live music to check out.
